What is a drill bit?

A drill bit is a cutting tool used by a general drill or drilling machine to cut round holes. The basic principle of the drill bit is to rotate the bit edge, cut the workpiece, and remove the cuttings by the drill groove. The main commonly used drill bits are twist drill, flat drill, center drill, deep hole drill and jacketing drill. Reaming drills and countersinks are customically classified as drill bits although they do not drill into solid material.
